FENCING for every level

The Forest Hill Recreation Council Tennis Program has been serving Harford County families for decades. Our certified coaches deliver structured, age-appropriate instruction in a fun, encouraging environment — from first-timers to competitive juniors.


We offer youth group lessons, adult clinics, Women's Summer Tennis leagues, and junior competitive pathways. Sessions run across three seasons with flexible scheduling for busy families.

Age Groups & Divisions

Every group is coached to its level. Find the right division for your child below.

Players who have had no or little prior instruction. An introduction and/or review of the fundamentals: forehand, backhand, serve, volley, and rules of game. Each week we will review a new stroke.

Thursdays from 6-6:50 pm

Players who know the strokes but need "tweaking". Clinics will incorporate faster pace drills & games, review proper grips, slicing, foot work and where to be on the court.

This program is appropriate for all levels. The focus is on drills and having fun.  Instructors are current or former Varsity high school tennis players. They have excellent skills to share and are motivating and fun.  This is not tennis pro instruction. Learn, practice, and have fun!

  • 5-8 Year old

    All levels, starting with basic instruction and moving on with games and drills as players are ready.

  • Beginner classes

    For age groups 9-12 and 13-16 will be on Monday and Wednesday.  Goal of classes will be to learn basic strokes through drills and fun games/activities.

  • Intermediate classes

    For age groups 9-12 and 13-16 will be on Tuesday and Thursday. Goal of classes is to practice and improve basic strokes through drills/games, learn to serve, and learn how to score and play singles and doubles. No tournament this year. Many opportunities to increase confidence with challenging games throughout the lessons.

  • Is the registration fee refundable?

    Registration fees are non-refundable unless the minimum class size requirement of 5 students is not met.

  • What type of shoes should students wear?

    Students are required to wear tennis shoes during class.

  • Do students need to bring their own water?

    Yes, each student should bring their own water bottle.

  • Is a tennis racquet provided?

    No. Students must provide their own tennis racquet and ensure their name is clearly marked on it.

  • What skills are required to participate in the class?

    Students should be able to follow a series of instructions in a group setting.

  • Can parents or spectators watch the class?

    Yes, spectators are welcome to watch from outside the tennis court fence. Only enrolled students are permitted inside the courts.

  • Who teaches the classes?

    All classes are taught by a PTR-certified tennis instructor.

Make-ups will only be available if the entire class is cancelled due to rain or court repairs.
